What is Individual Counseling?

Individual counseling is the most common type of counseling and happens when an individual person seeks help with life issues or problems affecting their well-being. The individual will meet one on one with a counselor to focus on the mental health and growth of the individual. They will work collaboratively to help the individual overcome barriers to their well-being, find healthy coping skills, work out challenging communication problems, increase positive feelings, and learn new skills to manage and make healthy decisions towards reaching their goals.

The process begins with the counselor gaining an understanding of why the person is seeking counseling and an assessment of the individual’s mental health. Next, the counselor and individual work together to create treatment goals and then work together to achieve those goals through homework and different therapeutic interventions.

When working with adults, adolescents, and children we offer a wide range of techniques and interventions based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

Individuals seek counseling to help with: depression, anxiety, anger, grief or loss, trauma or abuse, addiction, career counseling or planning, communication or boundary difficulties, marriage/couple/relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, areas of conflict, self-esteem and worth hindrances, becoming more self-aware, and so much more!
